Lucknow News: A building collapsed in Transport Nagar, under the Sarojini Nagar police station jurisdiction in Uttar Pradesh's Lucknow. The incident has raised concerns that several individuals are trapped. According to UP Relief Commissioner , GS Naveen Kumar, who is present at the Gowardhan Shukla lok Abndhu Hospita , a total of five people have died, while twenty four have been injured.
Earlier a medic had informed that two patients had been procliamed dead upon arrival.
Emergency services, including police and rescue teams, are currently on-site working to assess the situation and provide assistance.
"So far, 13 people have been evacuated. NDRF, SDRF, fire brigade, and police are carrying out rescue operations at the spot," Municipal Commissioner Lucknow Indrajit Singh told ANI.
The incident occurred at around 5 pm. The building was being used as a go-down, officials said. Some construction work was being done in the three-storey building.
Senior police and administrative officials are on the spot to oversee the ongoing rescue operations.
CM Yogi Adityanath took cognizance of the matter and directed officials to make immediate efforts to rescue those trapped.
Chief Fire Officer (CFO) Mangesh Kumar said that many people are still feared trapped in the collapsed building. "More people are said to be trapped... The exact number of the trapped people is yet to be ascertained," Kumar said.
Around a dozen people are feared trapped under the rubble, officials confirmed.
"Rescue teams from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) have been deployed to the scene and are working to extricate the trapped individuals," said Relief Commissioner GS Naveen Kumar.
Last month, a labourer was killed and five others were trapped when the roof slab of an under-construction building collapsed in Madhya Pradesh’s Indore district.
The incident occurred at Choral village in Mhow tehsil, about 40 km from the district headquarters, at night when the labourers were sleeping under it, the police official said.
In early August, one person died while two others received minor injuries after a building collapsed in the Mahendru Enclave of Model Town. An eyewitness and neighbour, Paras said that this was an old banquet hall that had collapse.
