Wrestler Bajrang Punia on Saturday said that the Mahapanchayat will take place today, emphasizing the fight for self-respect.

Speaking to the media, Punia said, “Mahapanchayat will certainly be held today. We're fighting for our self-respect. They're inaugurating the new Parliament building today, but murdering democracy in the country. We appeal to the administration to release our people detained by police."

Punia further appealed to the authorities to release individuals who have been detained by the police.

The wrestlers, who have been protesting, have announced their intention to organize a women's Maha Panchayat in front of the new Parliament building on Sunday.

Sakshi Malik has said that the protesting wrestlers will ensure to remain peaceful and not indulge in any kind of violence. In the past one month, the protesting wrestlers have visited various places in the national capital, including Bangla Sahid Gurudwara and Rajghat among others to garner support for their movement against Brij Bhushan.

Meanwhile, protesters from the Punjab Kisan Mazdoor Sangharsh Committee, who traveled from Amritsar on Saturday to attend the women wrestlers' Maha Panchayat near the new Parliament, have encountered a halt at the Ambala border today.
“We will not allow anything to disrupt the inauguration of the new Parliament building. The entire Delhi Police is on its toes to make sure the inauguration ceremony is conducted smoothly," said Delhi Police Special CP Deepender Pathak on the wrestlers' protest.

Increased security measures have been implemented in the vicinity of the Ghazipur border area as Khap panchayat leaders and farmers plan to join the wrestlers' march towards the new Parliament house in Delhi today.

In response to the anticipated participation of Khap Panchayat leaders and farmers in the wrestlers' march, the Delhi Police have erected barricades near the ITO road, Tikri border, and Singhu border areas.

Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, the president of the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI), has expressed his willingness to undergo a narco test.

Top wrestlers of the country, including Vinesh Phogat and Olympic medallists Bajrang Punia and Sakshi Malik, have been staging a sit-in at Jantar Mantar in Delhi since April 23, demanding Singh's arrest for allegedly sexually harassing seven women grapplers, including a minor.

The Delhi Police has filed two FIRs against the WFI president. While the first FIR relates to allegations by the minor wrestler and has been registered under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, the second is related to outraging modesty.
