
Maharashtra Local Body Election Results 2025 LIVE Updates: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday praised the Mahayuti alliance's strong performance in the Maharashtra local body elections, saying that it demonstrated the people's trust in the alliance’s vision of people-centric development.
According to Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, around 129 municipal council chairpersons have been elected from the BJP. He added that, collectively, the three alliance parties, Shiv Sena, BJP, and NCP led by Ajit Pawar, accounted for 75% of the city council chairpersons. Fadnavis also noted that over 3,300 BJP candidates were elected as corporators.
He congratulated his alliance partners, including Eknath Shinde and Ajit Pawar, as well as BJP leaders, for their efforts in achieving this outcome.
The State Election Commission reported a 67.3 per cent voter turnout in the polls held on December 2 for 263 local bodies, while 47.04 per cent of voters cast their ballots in the second phase for 23 local bodies on Saturday. The final turnout figures will be released later in the day, PTI reported.
Elections for the posts of Dondaicha Municipal Council president in Dhule and Angar Nagar Panchayat in Solapur were uncontested, as was the Jammer municipal president poll.
In several areas, ruling alliance partners—including the BJP, Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena, and Ajit Pawar’s NCP—contested against each other. The poll battle took a multi-dimensional character, with the BJP-led Mahayuti and the opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) clashing, along with “friendly fights” among alliance members.
The Maharashtra State Election Commission held elections for 288 urban local bodies—246 Municipal Councils and 42 Nagar Panchayats—across all six administrative divisions in a two-phase poll on December 2 and December 20. A total of 1,07,03,576 voters participated, including 53,79,931 men, 53,22,870 women, and 775 others, casting their ballots at around 13,355 polling stations.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi thanked the people of Maharashtra for supporting the BJP-led Mahayuti coalition in the elections, asserting that it reflected their trust in people-centric development.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah said the results of the election mark the "victory of politics of good governance and development".
Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Anil Parab said on Sunday that the announcement on the alliance between his party and Maharashtra Navnirman Sena could be made “any moment”.
According to his party colleague Sanjay Raut, it can happen in two to three days.
Speaking to reporters, Parab said the people of Mumbai have always backed the Thackerays and expressed confidence that the tie-up will happen in the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation polls.
“Alliance could be announced anytime. Leaders of both parties -- Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray and MNS president Raj Thackeray -- will decide how the announcement of the alliance should be made,” Parab said.
In a self-made video, UBT leader Anand Dubey said, "There's no need to take the Congress party seriously in Mumbai. For the past 30 years, Congress has consistently lost the Mumbai Municipal Corporation elections, so what miracle will they perform in 2026? The Congress party in Mumbai is like a tourist. Come, roam around, put up hoardings, campaign, lose the election, and then go home."
The results of the Maharashtra local body polls are a trailer of what is in store in the municipal corporation elections on January 15, Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde claimed amid counting of votes on Sunday.
The Mahayuti alliance swept the elections to 288 municipal councils and nagar panchayats by winning 207 posts of presidents of local bodies.
According to the State Election Commission (SEC), the BJP won 117 posts of municipal presidents, Shiv Sena won 53, and the NCP won 37 posts.

– NCP (SP) won seven seats
– Shiv Sena (UBT) won nine seats
– The parties registered with the SEC bagged four seats
– 28 seats of municipal presidents went to unrecognised registered parties.

Congress, NCP (SP), and Shiv Sena (UBT) won 44 posts of municipal council presidents in local body polls, said Maharashtra SEC, reported PTI.
Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut slammed the conduct of recent local body elections, claiming that elections have become more of an auction than a democratic process. He alleged that money was used to influence votes and that power was misused, noting the unusual involvement of the Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Ministers in local campaigns, according to ANI.
Raut also pointed out the disproportionate spending in some municipalities, where campaign expenses far exceeded the municipal budget. He added a historical-cultural reference, suggesting that Maharashtra is facing oppression compared to other regions.
The winning NCP candidate from Baramati, Sachin Satav, expressed that while he has been elected with a significant majority, he recognises the weight of the responsibility that comes with it, according to ANI. He stated that over the next five years, he will focus on the city’s overall development under the guidance of Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar.
According to state election commission, BJP, Shiv Sena and NCP won 207 posts of municipal council presidents in local body polls, reported PTI.
Dy CM Ajit Pawar expressed that under the Mahayuti alliance, they have been working alongside the state leadership for over a year, and the recent outcomes reflect the results of their efforts. He noted that in some areas they had to compete even against their allies, but the campaign was conducted with good coordination, according to ANI.
He highlighted that the public’s response has been positive, and he thanked the people of Maharashtra for their support. He also emphasised that the results bring greater responsibility, as voters chose them based on the promises made during campaigns, which now need to be fulfilled. He mentioned that the Nationalist Congress Party secured a significant number of seats, including several municipal presidencies.
He mentioned, "At the same time, the BJP and Shiv Sena have also delivered a strong performance. I congratulate all the 288 municipal presidents who have been elected, irrespective of which party they belong to. I hope they will understand their responsibilities and work sincerely. As a government, we will also extend our support to them."
State minister Sanjay Shirsat stated that these were elections of the workers, praising Dy CM Eknath Shinde for working really hard during the election campaign. “We admit that we weren't fully prepared; if we had started planning a few days earlier, we could have won more seats,” he said, according to ANI.
Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut criticised the local body election results, claiming that elections are ‘not held as elections,’ but are ‘auctioned.’ “This is the first time I saw the CM and Dy CMs campaigning for the local body elections...The municipality whose budget is ₹30 crores, around ₹150 crores were spent in campaigning...” Raut told ANI
As the Mahayuti Alliance swept the local bodies polls in Maharashtra, BJP leader Ravindra Chavan hailed the people's mandate and eyed the upcoming Municipal Corporations election. He claimed that in the upcoming elections, people would surely give their mandate to the Mahayuti, citing what he called “development work carried out by the government.”

BJP leader Kirit Somaiya stated that in the municipal council elections in Maharashtra, the BJP had secured a majority in 129 seats, whereas Uddhav Thackeray's Shiv Sena had managed to win a majority in only eight municipal corporations, according to ANI. He also mentioned that with the Mumbai Municipal Corporation elections scheduled for January 15th, the outcome did not seem favorable for Uddhav Thackeray and the younger Thackeray who had joined him.
BJP national spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla said the party had received a decisive mandate from the people of Maharashtra, claiming that the BJP won between 125 and 130 municipal bodies on its own, while the Mahayuti alliance secured over 215 of the 288 bodies, as per ANI. He said the results reflected public approval of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of a developed India and the roadmap laid out for Maharashtra.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has emerged as the single largest party in the Maharashtra local body elections, leading in 118 seats, according to the latest figures shared with HT. It was followed by the Shinde-led Shiv Sena with leads in 59 seats and the Ajit Pawar-led NCP in 37. Overall, the Mahayuti alliance crossed the 200-seat mark in early trends as counting progressed.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah thanked people of Maharashtra for overwhelming support to Mahayuti in civic polls.
“This victory is the people's blessings on the vision of the welfare of every section under the central and state governments of the NDA led by Modi ji. On this victory, I extend my best wishes to Chief Minister Shri @Dev_Fadnavisnji, Deputy Chief Minister Shri @mieknathshinde ji, Shri @AjitPawarSpeaks ji, and all the workers of the NDA,” Shah said on X.
He added, “At the same time, congratulations to state president Shri @RaviDadaChavan ji and all the workers of @BJP4Maharashtra for the BJP winning the maximum number of seats!”
Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said that the people of the state had once again expressed strong faith in the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, as well as the guidance of BJP National President and Union Minister J.P. Nadda and BJP National Working President Nitin Nabin, which he said paved the way for the party’s historic victory.
He added, “As per the trends and results received so far (as of 3 PM), BJP has secured victory in 129 municipal councils (45 %) this year, a significant rise against 94 in 2017. As MahaYuti, we have won 215 municipal councils (74.65 %), out of a total of 288 municipal councils.”
“In terms of number of corporators, BJP had won 1602 seats in 2017, which has now surged to 3325 (47.82 %). This means BJP won more than double the seats won earlier,” Fadnavis further said.
Even as the Maharashtra Election Commission is yet to make an official announcement on the state local body elections 2025, the ruling Mahayuti alliance on Sunday claimed a decisive lead, noting that early trends point to a sweeping mandate in its favour across municipal councils and local bodies, according to ANI.
Ahead of the declaration of results, Maharashtra Minister and former BJP state president Chandrashekhar Bawankule, speaking to the media in Jalna, said the Mahayuti, comprising the BJP, NCP, and Shiv Sena, was poised to win with a two-thirds majority and around a 51 per cent vote share.
As per PTI, Shiv Sena leader Shaina stated, "This is a magnificent victory, in the days to come, those who think that they can sit at home and score brownie points, gone are those days. We like to thank all Eknath Shinde's Ladki Bahin, who have come forth, and supported us in this victory, and for those who believe that they can take diggings at rivals, now it is a time for them to understand that their fate is to stay at home.
“People have once again shown who the real Shiv Sena is, and the message is clear, do your work, people will not vote on surname,” she added.
Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde stated in a press conference in Thane that the election results indicate the public favours development over politics and suggested that the Mahayuti’s strong performance could be repeated in the upcoming municipal corporation elections, reported PTI.
As per ANI, CM Devendra Fadnavis thanked the people of Maharashtra, stating they have given massive support to the BJP and the Mahayuti.
“I had already predicted that out of all the municipal council chairpersons elected, 75% would be from the Mahayuti, and the people have delivered exactly that verdict. It has also become clear that the Bharatiya Janata Party is the number one party,” Fadnavis mentioned.
Ahead of BMC polls, Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut confirme conclusion of numerous meetings. According to ANI, he said, "meetings were held between Shiv Sena and Maharashtra Navnirman Sena. Our alliance will be announced by tomorrow or the day after, including details of how many seats each party will contest. Uddhav and Raj Thackeray will announce this soon."
"Former president Bawankule, cabinet colleagues, and party workers — all have worked extremely hard. The coordination between the organisation and the party was excellent, and that is why we achieved this victory. This result is even better than 2017, and such a victory has not been seen in Maharashtra in the last 30–35 years..." ANI quoted CM Devendra Fadnavis as saying.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Sunday said the Mahayuti’s “success” in the municipal council and nagar panchayat polls was a team effort of the BJP organisation and the government.
“It is a team effort -- organisation and government. We fought the polls on the development plank. I led the campaign on a positive development agenda, and never did I even once criticise any political leader or party,” he mentioned, according to PTI.
The BJP secured the president’s position in four out of five local bodies in Latur district as results came in for the municipal councils and nagar panchayats elections.
The party won the president’s post in Udgir, Ahmedpur, Nilanga, and Renapur, while its Mahayuti ally, the NCP led by Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, claimed victory in Ausa, reported PTI citing officials.
As per PTI, ahead of upcoming BMC polls, Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut mentioned, "Discussions over, seat sharing will be announced by Uddhav and Raj Thackeray soon."
Union transport minister Nitin Gadkari hailed the Bharatiya Janta Party for their victory in the local body elections.
“Heartfelt congratulations to the Bharatiya Janata Party on its resounding victory. Congratulations to State BJP President Shri @RaviDadaChavan ji, Chief Minister Shri @Dev_Fadnavis ji, and all the dedicated party workers,” Gadkari said on X.
He added “This victory belongs to the party workers. A heartfelt thank you to the people for reposing their faith in the BJP and its development-oriented functioning."
The Mahayuti alliance continues to lead in the ongoing polls. According to the latest numbers, the BJP is ahead with 118 seats, followed by Shinde’s Sena with 59. The Ajit Pawar-led NCP is leading on 37 seats, while Congress is ahead on 32. The NCP-SP alliance has 9 seats in the lead, and Shiv Sena-UBT is leading on 8.
Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde claimed on Sunday, during the counting of votes, that the results of the Maharashtra local body elections serve as a preview of what can be expected in the municipal corporation elections on January 15, according to PTI.
Initial trends showed the Mahayuti, comprising the BJP, Ajit Pawar's NCP and Shinde's Shiv Sena, ahead comfortably. "Results show the public's preference for development over politics. The grand victory of the Mahayuti in the elections is an indication that the Mahayuti will repeat the same in the forthcoming municipal corporation elections," he said at a press conference here.
Shiv Sena's Om Prakash Khursaday won Malegaon Nagar Panchayat Election. As per ANI, he said, "This victory belongs to the people who blessed us with their votes. Our leader, Eknath Shinde, came here before the election to attend a meeting. This victory belongs to the people more than us..."
Durgadevi Indrajit Jagdale of Ajit Pawar’s NCP has won the mayoral election in the Daund Municipal Council and defeated Monali Veer by 4,891 votes, as per ANI. She said, "This victory belongs to the people who voted for me and allowed me to serve them. I will try my best to live upto the expectations of the people and deliver the promises..."
Ajit Pawar's NCP secured a big win in Roha Municipalityand claimed 18 out of 20 seats, as per ANI.
The Congress and the Sharad Pawar–led NCP (SP) said they had managed to hold on to their strongholds in Chandrapur and Sangli districts. Early trends indicated that the Mahayuti alliance, made up of the BJP, Eknath Shinde’s Shiv Sena and the Ajit Pawar–led NCP, was leading overall. In Chandrapur district’s Brahmapuri municipal council, the Congress secured the council president’s position and won 21 of the 23 seats, according to senior leader Vijay Wadettiwar, PTI reported.
In Urun-Ishwarpur municipal council in Sangli district, the NCP (SP) has won 23 seats, including the post of council president, senior leader Jayant Patil said.

NCP leader Jai Patil has secured a fourth consecutive term as Baramati city president, narrowly winning the Baramati Municipal Council elections by a margin of 200 votes over his opponent, according to a report by The Times of India.
Several instances of election-related violence and alleged irregularities were reported across Maharashtra on Saturday.
In Ambernath, police carried out a lathi-charge after clashes erupted between two groups. Authorities also detained 208 women who had come from nearby Bhiwandi in connection with the disturbance,according to a report by HT.
Early trends from the first hour of counting in Maharashtra’s local body elections show the BJP in the lead for 85 municipal council president posts. The Shiv Sena, led by Chief Minister Eknath Shinde is ahead in 41 seats, while Ajit Pawar’s NCP is leading in 32.
Shiv Sena (UBT) candidates are ahead in 10 posts, Sharad Pawar’s NCP in 12, and the Congress is leading in 16 municipal council president seats.
The counting of votes for the Washim Municipal Council, Trimbakeshwar Municipal Council and Nagar Panchayat elections 2025 began on Sunday.
The strongroom of the Trimbakeshwar Municipal Council was opened, and the counting process is underway. The seals were broken in the presence of all candidates and their authorised representatives.
In a social media post, BJP state spokesperson Keshav Upadhye shared the results from the previous round of polls, noting that the 246 Municipal Councils and 42 Municipal Panchayats together accounted for 5,739 members.

The BJP is performing strongly in multiple areas, with Pradeep Patil leading in Gangapur and Parshuram Bargal in Khuldabad. In Vaijapur, BJP’s Dinesh Pardeshi is ahead based on postal ballots, and Suhas Shirsat holds the early lead for the party in Phulambri.
Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde says, "The Mahayuti alliance contested the Lok Sabha elections, it contested the assembly elections, and it will also contest the municipal elections, and the Mahayuti alliance will win."
On BMC elections, Maharashtra Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule says, "...The Mahayuti alliance will win with a two-thirds majority, and the people of Jalna have faith in Prime Minister Modi and Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis...Only a double-engine government can develop Jalna, and the people believe this, which is why they will vote for the BJP alliance...Our party's mayoral candidate will definitely win in Jalna..."
