Maharashtra news: According to Harsh Poddar, SP, Nagpur Rural, five people have died following an explosion at an aluminium foil factory in Umred, Nagpur. Two victims succumbed to their injuries while undergoing treatment in the hospital, and the deaths of three previously missing persons have now been confirmed.
Poddar added it happened inside the factory's polished tubing unit while 87 workers were present at the site in Umred taluka of Nagpur district on Friday.
“This factory is located in Umred taluka of Nagpur. There was an explosion in the factory's polished tubing unit. The fire has not been completely controlled. The fire department is present at the spot, and fire engines are working to extinguish the fire. A total of 87 people were present inside (during the explosion). Eight people have been reported injured... After the fire is extinguished, an investigation will be conducted inside. It is difficult to go inside where the fire has occurred,” ANI quoted Poddar as saying.
Fire tenders were rushed to the spot to douse the fire, officials said.
In a separate incident, according to reports, a massive fire broke out at a firecracker warehouse near Mehndi Bagh Railway Overbridge (RoB) on April 9, Wednesday afternoon. It began around 3 pm and destroyed goods worth about ₹2.5 crore. Ten fire engines were sent to the spot as thick flames and smoke resulted from the fire. However, no casualties were reported.
