Business News/ News / India/  Mallikarjun Kharge slams govt over action on wrestlers protests, says 'BJP-RSS lies exposed'
Back

Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge on Sunday stepped up his attack against Prime Minister Narendra Modi for inaugurating the new Parliament building. Mallikarjun Kharge also mentioned the clamp down of Delhi Police by the protesting wrestlers and said that the lies of BJP-RSS stands exposed.

“The right to inaugurate the new Parliament was snatched from the President. Women players were beaten up on the streets with dictatorial force… The three lies of BJP-RSS rulers now stand exposed before the country - Democracy, Nationalism and Save the Daughter. Remember Modi ji, democracy is not just about buildings but functions with the voice of the public," Kharge tweeted in Hindi.

The fresh attack by the Congress President came as Delhi Police detained protesting wrestlers and sent them to unknown locations. During the clampdown, the internationally acclaimed wrestlers were leading a woman 'Mahapanchayat' towards the new Parliament building.

Delhi Police said that action against the protestors came as they tried to breach the cordon and violate the law and order of the city.

"They have been detained for violating law and order. We will take legal action after an inquiry in due course of time," said Dependra Pathak, Special CP, Law, and Order.

“We need to assess the entire situation. As you have seen the barricades have been broken and they moved ahead despite request and warning. So that is why we have removed them from here."

The police forces also cleared the protest site by removing the cots, mattresses, coolers, fans, and the tarpaulin ceiling. This indicates that the administration might not let the wrestlers continue their protest after their release.

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi also attacked the government over the treatment of national-level players and said that "the coronation is over, arrogant king is crushing the voice of the public."
