West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday suffered a minor head injury after her car met with an accident. The accident occurred when her car abruptly stopped to avoid a collision with another vehicle, a senior official told ANI.
The TMC supremo, who was seated in front beside the driver, was injured after her head hit the windscreen, he said. Due to the head injury, the CM was brought back to Kolkata where she is undergoing treatment.
After reaching to Kolkata, Mamata Banerjee gave an update about her health and described the accident that took place earlier in the day.
"I can sense a fever coming. I am also feeling cold. A vehicle suddenly came before my car. It was a speeding vehicle. I survived due to the applying of hand brakes and sustained an injury just on the head. Police will do its work. I will not go to the hospital. I am feeling cold, I am going home," said Banerjee.
On Wednesday afternoon, Banerjee had gone to Purba Bardhaman to chair an administrative review meeting. Reacting to the news of Banerjee's accident, Congress leader Jairam Ramesh wished her a speedy recovery.
"We have just heard of the injury suffered by Mamata Banerjee-ji in a car accident. We wish her a full and speedy recovery. The Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra is looking forward to entering West Bengal tomorrow late morning. January 26 and 27th are break days, and the Yatra will resume on the 28th," Ramesh posted on X.
Earlier in the day, Mamata Banerjee had declared that her party, TMC would fight alone in Bengal. Her announcement has come after TMC and Congress faced disagreements over seat-sharing in West Bengal for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
"I had no discussions with the Congress party. I have always said that in Bengal, we will fight alone. I am not concerned about what will be done in the country but we are a secular party and in Bengal, we will alone defeat BJP." the TMC supremo said.
"I gave many proposals but they rejected them from the beginning. From then, we have decided to fight the elections in Bengal alone."
She also claimed that she was not informed about Rahul Gandhi's Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra passing through Bengal, contrary to claims by the Congress that the party has invited all the INDIA bloc parties to join the foot march.
"They did not even bother to inform me that they would be coming to West Bengal as a matter of courtesy even though I am a part of the INDIA bloc. So there is no relation with me as far as Bengal is concerned" Mamata Banerjee said.
