Currently, the home minister is on his visit to Manipur to ensure peace in the ethnic violence-hit state.

Earlier in the day, Union Minister Amit Shah visited Churachandpur. There he met with Kuki civil society leaders and church leaders to find ways to bring peace to the northeastern state. There he announced compensation for victims of the riots in the state. The government announced a compensation of 10 lakh to those who died during the ethnic conflict in Manipur. In addition to this, a family member of the deceased will be provided with a job. The compensation amount will be funded equally by the centre and the state.

The decision to announce compensation was taken at a meeting between the Union Home Minister and Chief Minister N Biren Singh on Monday late night.

It is worth noting that the death toll due to ethnic clashes in the state rose to 80, reported PTI.

In the meeting, it was also decided that essential commodities like petrol, LPG gas, rice and other food products will be made available in large quantities to curb inflation.

The Home Minister is also accompanied by the Home Secretary Ajay Kumar Bhalla and Director of the Intelligence Bureau Tapan Kumar Deka.

Other than this, Amit Shah also held consultations on Tuesday with stake-holders including group of women leaders, members of civil society organisations, etc.

"Held a meeting with a group of women leaders (Meira Paibi) in Manipur. Reiterated the significance of the role of women in the society of Manipur. Together, we are committed to ensuring peace and prosperity in the state," Shah tweeted.
