Congress leader Milind Deora expressed his strong disapproval of the recent 5-kilometre-long parade in Brampton, Canada, which depicted the assassination of Indira Gandhi.

Mint can not independently confirm the veracity of the video.

A video circulating on social media depicts a parade float in Canada's Brampton, allegedly organized by Khalistani supporters, showcasing the assassination of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. The float was part of a 5-kilometre-long procession. The video in question is believed to be from a parade held in Brampton by supporters of Khalistan on June 4, which coincided with the upcoming 39th anniversary of Operation Blue Star on June 6.

Congress leader emphasized that his criticism was not about taking sides but rather about showing respect for a nation's history and acknowledging the pain caused by the assassination of its Prime Minister.

The video received a strong backlash on social media, with people expressing their condemnation of the parade organized by Khalistan supporters.

"Does it help Canada's 'Indo-Pacific strategy'? A float depicting murder of late Indian PM by her Sikh bodyguards being part of about 5 KM long parade in city of Brampton on June 4th. Jody Thomas may reflect on it," said a username Balraj Deol.

Another user expressed that even though Indira Gandhi was associated with the Congress party, no members of the BJP would support the tableau out of respect for the former Prime Minister of India. The user also implied that the Congress party continues to take pleasure in defaming Prime Minister Modi on international platforms.

Operation Blue Star refers to the military operation conducted by the Indian Army to address the presence of Sikh militants, led by Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale, within the Golden Temple complex in Amritsar, Punjab.

On June 6, 1984, the Indian Army, acting upon the orders of then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, launched Operation Blue Star to confront Sikh militancy led by Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale in Punjab's Golden Temple.

The operation aimed to address concerns of weapon stockpiling within the temple premises. However, it faced significant criticism. Several months later, on October 31, 1984, Indira Gandhi was assassinated at her residence in New Delhi by two of her Sikh bodyguards.
