NEW DELHI : Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday said the country should work together for empowering women. There is a need to celebrate the accomplishments of women, Modi said during Vijayadashami celebrations in Delhi.
“In the last nine days we worshipped Ma (goddess Durga). Taking that spirit ahead, let us always work towards furthering empowerment, as well as the dignity of women. During the Mann Ki Baat (his radio talk show) I had spoken about ghar ki Laxmi (an allusion to the goddess of wealth). This Diwali, let us celebrate the accomplishments of our nari shakti (woman power). This can be our Laxmi pujan (Laxmi worship)," said the prime minister.
Modi also said that on the occasion of Vijayadashami people should take up one mission, such as not wasting food, conserving energy, or saving water for one year and then work towards the accomplishment of the mission, he said.
Modi said India is a land of festivals and through its vibrant culture, there is always an occasion or festival in some part of India. “Every festival brings our society together."
