According to the statement, as a prelude to the 8th Governing Council meeting, the second Chief Secretaries Conference was held in January 2023 where these themes were extensively discussed.
Wide-ranging stakeholder consultations and brainstorming sessions with subject experts, academia and practitioners were held prior to the Conference in order to gain well-rounded grassroot-level perspectives, it added.
The conference, attended by the Prime Minister, witnessed the active participation of select Secretaries from the Government of India and Chief Secretaries from all states and union territories, who shared best practices and policy insights.
India, as the world’s fifth-largest economy and the most populous nation, is poised for accelerated growth over the next 25 years. The 8th Governing Council Meeting presents an opportunity for the Centre and States to work together as Team India and create a roadmap for Viksit Bharat by 2047. India’s socioeconomic growth and transformation can have a positive and multiplier effect on the world at large.
The meeting is also significant in the context of India’s G20 Presidency. With its motto of ‘One Earth, One Family, One Future,’ India aims to showcase its civilizational values and vision for a sustainable future. The international community holds high hopes for India’s values-based leadership and its capacity to deliver large-scale development. The collaboration between the Centre and States has played a crucial role in shaping India’s distinctive development trajectory.
The growth of India is closely intertwined with the growth of its states. As Prime Minister Modi stated in his 76th Independence Day address, “When our States grow, India grows.” This guiding principle will shape India’s inclusive and sustainable vision for the next 25 years.
The 8th Governing Council Meeting will provide a platform for strengthening Centre-State cooperation and fostering partnerships to achieve the goal of Viksit Bharat @ 2047.
