Mumbai: Actor Dino Morea on Wednesday reached the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) office as he is being questioned in connection with the Mithi River cleaning scam.
Yesterday, the officials had questioned Morea for nearly 7 hours. He was summoned after Mumbai police's EOW discovered numerous phone conversations between him and his brother Ketan Kadam, who is a prime suspect in the Mithi River cleaning scam case which is still under probe.
According to reports, Morea's name surfaced after police examined the call records and financial transactions connected to the accused. The EOW is investigating whether Morea has any knowledge of the dealings and transactions involving Ketan and other parties.
The Mithi River cleaning case is a financial irregulaity scam involving the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) and the rental of silt pusher machines and dredging equipment.
It nabbed two people a few weeks ago who were allegedly involved in acting as intermediaries in the supply of rental equipment. It also arrested Ketan Kadam and Jayesh Joshi as part of their investigations, reports said.
They allegedly billed the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) inflated amounts for the equipment, in collusion with officials from the civic body’s Storm Water Drains (SWD) department and executives from Matprop.
Ketan Kadam is the director of Mumbai-based Woder India LLP, a company that offers desilting services, while Jayesh Joshi is linked to Virgo Specialties, a Mumbai-based industrial product manufacturer. 13 individuals have been booked in connection with the scam, according to a report by HT.
Meanwhile, Morea will be next star in Akshay Kumar's Housefull 5, which is helmed by Tarun Mansukhani and produced by Sajid Nadiadwala under Nadiadwala Grandson Entertainment. It is set to release in theatres globally on June 6 later this year.
