Mumbai local train gets a swanky upgrade. Check out the new coaches

Western Railway has recently introduced all new Uttam coaches for local trains in Mumbai

    Indian Railways has recently introduced Uttam coaches for local trains in Mumbai. The all new state-of-art Uttam rake will ply in the Churchgate to Virar route. With improved facilities and better amenities, Uttam coaches are aimed to provide hassle-free and comfortable travel experience to local commuters.

    Indian Railways has installed a plethora of new features in Uttam coaches. Every Uttam coach is equipped with CCTV cameras. This is the first non-AC local train on Western Railway where CCTV cameras are installed for commuters' safety. Anti-dent partitions are installed in every Uttam coach to prevent theft.

    Interior of Uttam coaches have also been revamped. The new coaches are spacious with high backrest seats in the First Class section. In the Second Class, there are Fibre Reinforced Plastic (FRP) seats with wooden finishing for comfort journey and better aesthetics.

    Ceilings are made of smooth-finished corrugated FRP. To enhance the aesthetic appeal, the wooden finished roof ventilation ducts have been used. Indian Railways installs wider and improved grab handles for better grip. Electrically-operated passenger alarm system is installed in the coaches instead of traditional emergency chains. Red emergency buttons are also there.

    Indian Railways has introduced Latest Brushless DC (BLDC) fans in all the coaches. Latest Brushless DC (BLDC) fans consumes 30% less energy than the conventional fans. Diffused LED lights have been used in the Uttam coaches. Along with the latest amenities for daily passengers, new Uttam coaches will also save big on energy.

    The train will run in Churchgate-Virar route 10 times in a day. The swanky Uttam coaches feature posters about Western Railway’s journey as an effective transport medium over the years. Various landmarks of the financial capital along with inspirational quotes and posters of iconic women achievers are being portrayed inside the train.

    There are only two Uttam rakes have been built at the Integral Coach Factory (ICF) in Chennai. Western Railway is using one in Churchgate-Virar route in the financial capital. The other Uttam rake has been given to South Central Railway.
