Mumbai recorded its hottest June day in nearly 10 years as hope of rainfall waned. The city reportedly saw a temperature of 38.5°C on Saturday with IMD officials citing southerly winds for the spike. The last time a similar day temperature was reported during the month of June was in the year 2014 (38°C).
The Met department had forecast rain for the coastal city as Cyclone Biparjoy barrels towards the coast. However Mumbai is yet to receive much relief from the extreme temperatures.
The very severe cyclonic storm 'Biparjoy' is very likely to intensify into an extremely severe cyclonic storm during the next 12 hours. As per the latest forecast, the storm lay centred some 620 km west-southwest of Mumbai at 2:30 pm today.
