Nepal Prime Minister to visit India
In July last year, Prachanda visited India and met with BJP president J P Nadda and external affairs minister S Jaishankar.

Nepal’s prime minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ will visit India from 31 May to 3 June. This will be Prachanda’s first bilateral visit abroad since he took office in December 2022.
“During the visit, the prime minister of Nepal will call on President and Vice-President and will hold extensive talks with Prime Minister Modi to discuss the diverse areas of the bilateral partnership between India and Nepal. Other Indian dignitaries will call on the prime minister of Nepal. In addition to the official engagements, prime minister of Nepal will also be visiting Ujjain and Indore as part of his visit," according to a press release from India’s ministry of external affairs.
Pracha has been a key figure in Nepal’s politics for decades. He led the Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist) during the country’s protracted civil war during the 1990s and 2000s. After the introduction of democratic elections, Prachanda became Prime Minister for the first time in 2008 after his CPN (M) emerged as the largest party. He also became prime inister for a second time in 2016. In December last year, he took office for a third time.
“The visit continues the tradition of regular high level exchanges between India and Nepal in furtherance of our ‘Neighbourhood First’ policy. The bilateral relations between the two countries have significantly strengthened in the last few years in all areas of cooperation. This visit underscores the importance given by both sides in adding further momentum to the bilateral partnership," the MEA press release says.

The India-Nepal relationship has had its troubles of late. Bilateral ties have suffered due to a territorial dispute over border territories Kalapani, Lipulekh and Limpiyadhura. China’s growing footprint in Nepal has also been a matter of concern to India.
