Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla are scheduled to inaugurate New Parliament Building on 28 May, Sunday. On that day PM Modi will dedicate the new Parliament building to the people of India.
Ahead of the now-much-controversial inauguration, several Opposition parties have noted their disagreement and demanded that President of India Droupadi Murmu inaugurate the new building, instead of PM Modi.
Relentless to the Opposition's demand, the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), the ruling party at the Centre, released an official statement condemning the opposition.
However, amid the boycott and the tussle, several parties, including non-NDA parties have conceded to attending the inauguration event on Sunday. This includes, former Prime Minister and Karnataka Janata Dal (Secular) supremo HD Deve Gowda, Biju Janata Dal (BJD) leader Naveen Patnaik, among others.
A total of twenty five parties are set to attend the new Parliament building inauguration event on Sunday in national capital Delhi.
Apart from the BJP, several parties in the NDA including AIADMK, Apna Dal, the Republican Party of India, the Shinde faction of Shiv Sena, NPP, and NPF have confirmed their attendance for the function on Sunday.
Several neutral parties, including Biju Janata Dal, TDP, and YSRCP will be present for the inauguration.
Amongst the opposition parties, Shiromani Akali Dal and Bahujan Samajwadi Party and JDS will attend the function on Sunday.
Notably, a total of nineteen opposition parties have said that they would boycott the event, with a ‘Count us out’.
President Droupadi Murmu and Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar are likely to release congratulatory messages on the occasion of the inauguration of the new Parliament building on May 28, reported ANI.
An elaborate ceremony will take place in the morning on 28 May for the inauguration of the new Parliament building, according to news agency ANI.
This includes pujas performed according to Vedic rituals starting at 7:30 am. The pujas will go on till 9am, after which the inauguration function is expected to begin around noon.
For the pujas in the morning, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Lok Sabha, Speaker, Om Birla, Deputy Chairman, Hariwansh and a couple of top officials are expected to be present, reported ANI.
Special priests will be coming down from across the country and performing the pujas, sources said.
At 11:30 am all the invitees including members of Parliament, Lok Sabha Speaker and Rajya Sabha, chairman and other distinguished guests are expected to be seated in the Lok Sabha chamber in the new building.
The function is expected to begin at about 12 pm and is expected to be over by around 1:30 pm.
During the function, the Sengol will be installed in the Central Hall of Parliament in the new building, which is essentially the Lok Sabha chamber. A speech will be delivered by Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla and Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to make the closing speech.
