New Year celebrations: Delhi Metro, Delhi police, Gurgaon police issue advisory

Ahead of New Year eve, Delhi Police has come out with adequate traffic arrangements to ensure regulated and smooth flow of traffic. The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has informed about closing of exit points at the Rajiv Chowk metro station from 9 pm. "To ease overcrowding on New Year's Eve (December 31, 2019), exit from Rajiv Chowk metro station will not be allowed after 9 PM onwards. Entry of passengers will be allowed till the departure of the last train. Please plan your journey accordingly," the DMRC tweeted.

Rajiv Chowk is one of the busiest stations of the Delhi Metro as it serves as an interchange of the Blue and Yellow lines.

The decision has been taken in mind considering the large number of people who arrive at Connaught Place for parties organised to welcome the new year.

Delhi Police will be imposing traffic restrictions from 8pm on December 31 at Connaught Place and adjoining areas. Delhi Traffic Police has issued an advisory that says no vehicular traffic shall be allowed in inner, middle or Outer circle of Connaught Place.

"No vehicle shall be allowed to proceed towards Connaught Place beyond (i) R/A Mandi House (ii) R/A Bengali Market (iii) North foot of Ranjit Singh Flyover (iv) Minto Road - DeenDayalUpadhaya Marg crossing (v) Chelmsford Road near Munje Chowk (New Delhi Rly. Station) (vi) R.K. Ashram Marg-Chitragupta Marg Crossing (vii) R/A Gole Market (viii) R/A G.P.O., New Delhi (viii) Patel Chowk (ix) Kasturba Gandhi Road - Ferozshah Road Crossing (x) Jai Singh Road-Bangla Sahib Lane (xi) R/A Windsor place," said the advisory issued by the Delhi traffic police.

The advisory also said that parking space near Connaught Place will be available only on a first come first serve basis.

"Traffic arrangements have also been made at the places having high footfall, including Saket, Greater Kailash, Lajpat Nagar, New Friends Colony, Hauz khas, Defence Colony, Vasant Vihar, R.K. Puram, Nehru Place, Dwarka, Palam Air Port, Rajouri Garden Area, Ashok Vihar Area, Model Town Area, Mayur Vihar Area and Other areas. Necessary traffic diversions as per requirement shall also be done," the advisory said.

The advisory said that parking facilities will be available only at specific locations in the vicinity of Connaught Place such as near Gole Dak Khana, Patel Chowk on Rakab Ganj Road behind AIR, near Mandi House on Copernicus Marg up to Baroda House, near Minto Road on DD Upadhaya Marg and Press Road area, Panchkuian Road on RK Ashram Marg, Chitragupta Road and Basant Road towards Paharganj, KG Marg near Ferozshah Road or KG Marg to 'C' Hexagon and near Windsor Place, Joint Commissioner of Police (Traffic) NS Bundela.

Places which will likely see the presence of a large number of people will have traffic diversions in place by the police.

Gurgaon traffic police has also issued a traffic advisory for commuters visiting various markets/malls on new year eve on 31st Dec 2019.
