New Delhi: NTPC Green Energy Ltd (NGEL), a subsidiary of NTPC Ltd, has entered into a partnership with Uttar Pradesh Rajya Vidyut Utpadan Nigam Limited (UPRVUNL) to develop renewable energy parks in Uttar Pradesh.
The collaboration aims to support the government’s energy transition goals and facilitate the development of clean energy infrastructure in the state, according to a statement released by NTPC Ltd on Thursday..
NGEL and UPRVUNL signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on 31 May in Lucknow, solidifying their commitment to joint efforts in renewable energy development.
As part of the agreement, the companies will collaborate on the establishment of ground-mounted and floating solar projects in various locations, including the Rihand reservoir and other suitable water bodies and land areas. They also plan to develop renewable energy parks and projects in areas where land is available.
In addition to the solar projects, the partnership aims to solarize Ayodhya city through the development of a dedicated solar photovoltaic project. This initiative underscores the commitment of both companies to promoting clean and sustainable energy solutions.
‘’NGEL and UPRVUNL shall jointly work for formation of Joint Venture Company (JVC) to meet the renewable generation obligation, flexibility in generation and scheduling of thermal/hydro power stations through bundling with renewable energy and energy storage,‘’ the statement said.
NTPC, India’s largest power utility with an installed capacity of approximately 72 GW, established NGEL as a fully owned subsidiary to focus on Renewable Energy Parks and Projects. The subsidiary aims to drive the development of green hydrogen, energy storage technologies, and round-the-clock renewable energy power.
UPRVUNL was constituted to set up and operate power-generating stations in the state of Uttar Pradesh.
At present UPRVUNL has four thermal power stations within Uttar Pradesh with an installed capacity of 5,820 MW and one thermal power station with installed capacity of 1,320 MW under JV with NTPC.
It is in the process of adding further 3,300 MW capacity with super critical technology on its own and another 1,980 MW in Joint Venture with CPSEs. UPRVUNL is looking to diversify into renewable energy and energy storage sectors.
