Three trains collided in Odisha's Balasore district on Friday night, killing 275 people and injuring more than 1100 others. The restoration work of both the up line and down-line tracks was completed on Sunday night and efforts are underway to reunite the victims and those who were killed in the accident with their families.
1) The ten-member Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) team has reached the accident site in Balasore to probe the Odisha tragic train incident which claimed 275 lives and left more than 1,100 injured.
2) “Forensic and CBI team is here. They are collecting the evidence and doing their investigation. Railway is providing assistance to them. All angles will be probed by CBI during the probe,” said Aditya Kumar Chaudhary, CPRO, South Eastern Railway.
3) “The Commissioner of Railway Safety (CRS) team is also working at multiple locations including Kharagpur, and Balasore. They are collecting all the information... Some fake news is being spread regarding the death of the loco pilot, the name of the station master. The Loco pilot is stable and is undergoing treatment in Bhubaneswar,” Chaudhary added.
4) “Our team left for the spot within 10 minutes. Later we sent 8-9 teams. The community played a good role. People helped a lot. They served food to the people present on the train. They were providing water to our officials working there. I also came to know that 1000 people donated blood. So it was a good response from the people,” DG NDRF Atul Karwal told media persons.
5) The decision to involve the CBI was prompted by findings from a preliminary probe that suggested "deliberate interference" in the signaling system, necessitating a thorough investigation by a professional agency.
6) An official on Tuesday also said that over 100 bodies from Balasore triple train accident pilling up in different hospitals here awaiting identification and AIIMS, Bhubaneswar has started DNA sampling of the claimants.
7) Of the 275 dead persons, 177 bodies have been identified while another 101 need to be identified and handed over to their families, PTI reported.
8) Apart from ABI, the Commissioner of Railway safety (CRS) and GRP, Balasore has begun an inquiry into the Balasore triple train crash in which at least 275 people were killed.
9) Khurda Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) Rinkesh Roy suspected outside physical tampering of equipment for which the Coromandel express entered into the loop line and hit the iron laden goods train causing triple train crash on June 2.
10) He added that when the Coromandel express passed through Bahanaga Bazar station, there was green signal on the main line. "The signal is usually green when all the pre-conditions required for the signal to go green are perfect. If any of the pre-conditions does not meet, technically the signal can never turn green. Unless and until anyone tampers with the signal system, it remains red."
