NEW DELHI: Facing disruptions for the second consecutive day, Rajya Sabha on Tuesday was adjourned in less than 2 minutes of the start of the session till 2pm.
The budget session, which reconvened after a three-week break, resumed on Monday.
As proceedings of the Upper House began at 11am on Tuesday, Union minister Anurag Thakur rose to speak while laying papers on the table. Opposition members, however, were having none of Thakur and demanded why action was not taken against the minister for his controversial remarks which allegedly stoked the Delhi riots.
As senior Congress leaders including B K Hariprasad and Rajeev Gowda rose to protest against Thakur, Union ministers Piyush Goyal and Prakash Javadekar rose to speak from the Treasury benches but were inaudible in the press gallery.
Chairman M. Venkaiah Naidu adjourned the House till 2pm, ruing the uproar.
Repeated adjournments in both Houses and acrimonious scenes in the Lok Sabha marked proceedings of the first day of the reconvened budget session of Parliament on Monday.
