New Parliament building Inauguration Live Updates: India's new Parliament building is scheduled to be inaugurated on Sunday i.e. 28 May. Over the inauguration, the opposition parties have raised objections saying that the President and not the Prime Minister should inaugurate the new Parliament building. As many as 20 Opposition parties, including Congress, the Trinamool Congress, and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), have issued a boycott call.
The government has also received a confirmed list of 25 political parties, including some which are not a part of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), that will participate in the inauguration ceremony.

Congress leader Acharya Pramod Krishnan has appealed to the Opposition to reconsider its decision to boycott the inauguration of the new Parliament building. This comes in the wake of the announcement by 20 Opposition parties, including the Congress to boycott the ceremony to unveil the new Parliament building.

The Congress on Thursday stepped up its attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the inauguration of the new Parliament building, saying "one man's ego and desire for self-promotion" has denied the first tribal woman president her constitutional privilege to inaugurate the complex.
All current members of both houses of Parliament, as well as ministers, secretaries, chief ministers, and administrators of Union territories, have been invited by the Centre. However, as many as 20 parties including Congress, CPI, AAP and Trinamool Congress have announced that they would boycott the event.
"President of India is Number 1 in the warrant of precedence, VP is Num 2 & Prime Minister is 3rd. Government ignorant about constitutional niceties. This is NOT Modiji's Grihapravesh for house that he built with his own money. @AITCofficial not attending May 28th party. Good luck to BJP," Mahua Moitra had tweeted.
Amid the boycott call by 19 parties of the upcoming inauguration ceremony of the new Parliament building, Maharashtra Legislative Assembly Speaker Rahul Narwekar on Wednesday said this boycott is disrespectful not only to the citizens but to the Constitution as well.
History will repeat itself on Sunday when the new Parliament House will be dedicated to the nation. On this day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will receive the sacred symbol of fair and equitable governance, Sengol and install it in the new Parliament House.
This is the same Sengol that was accepted by the first Prime Minister of India Jawaharlal Nehru at his residence on the night of August 14, in the presence of several leaders.

Reacting to the call by the Opposition, National Democratic Alliance (NDA) said that the move to boycott the inauguration of the Parliament building is not merely disrespectful but is a blatant affront to the democratic ethos and constitutional values of the country.
All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) is the latest edition to the list of opposition parties who will boycott the inauguration of the new Parliament building on May 28 as it "insults the high office of the President, and violates the letter and spirit of the Constitution".

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla will dedicate to the nation the new Parliament building on May 28.
Invitations have been sent in both physical and digital forms to the MPs of both Houses.
According to sources, all Chief Ministers of all the states and Union Territories have been sent the invitation.
"Apart from sitting members of Parliament of both houses invitations have been sent to former Lok Sabha Speakers and former Rajya Sabha Chairman. All chief ministers have also been invited to attend the inauguration ceremony," sources told ANI on condition of anonymity.
Present deputy chairman of Rajya Sabha, Hariwansh is likely to be present for the ceremony on Sunday.
Apart from this, invitations have also been sent to Secretaries of all ministries of the Government of India.
The chief architect of the new Parliament building, Bimal Patel and reputed industrialist Ratan Tata have also been invited to the inauguration of the new building.
Tata Projects won the contract to build the new Parliament building, a part of the Centre's Central Vista redevelopment plans.
Tata Projects had beaten Larsen and Toubro. Tata Projects had offered to accomplish the project for ?861.9 crore.
