Women travelling in DTC and cluster buses will be given pink tickets having face value of ₹10 each
The scheme is voluntary and women travellers can choose to not avail it
In a 'Bhai Dooj' gift for women, the Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) board has approved Delhi government's scheme for free travel for women in DTC and cluster buses. Under Arvind Kejriwal-led Delhi government's scheme for free travel for women passengers, pink tickets will be issued to women passengers. The scheme has been approved till March 2020 and it will be rolled out on 29th October, PTI reported. The Delhi cabinet had given its nod to the free-ride scheme last month.
"The DTC board has approved free travel for women in its buses. It has also given a go-ahead to procure 300 electric buses," PTI quoted sources as saying.
In June, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal announced free travel for women in metro and buses. However, with the delay in approval for free rides on the metro, the AAP government decided to go ahead to make travel for women free in buses.
The term of the Delhi assembly ends in February. In the run-up to assembly election, the AAP-led government has announced a slew of measures to woo voters of the national capital.
