Subramanian Swamy on Friday demande railway minister Ashwini Vaishnaw's resignation over the tragic train accident in Odisha and noted that Prime Minister Modi is paying the price for it.

On the cause of the accident, Swamy said the fast train that flew off the tracks to an oncoming train was never to be allowed on those tracks since the tracks were meant for a slower train.

He further noted that the railway minister should resign without waiting for a nod from the PM.

The deadly train accident left over 280 dead and hundreds injured. The disastrous accident that involved 3 trains occurred around 7.30 pm on Friday.

The Coromandel Express, running at about 127 km per hour, collided with the goods train and derailed on the main line, an official from the railway ministry said. Within minutes of the collision, the official cited above said that the Howrah-bound Yashwantnagar Express coming from the opposite side collided with the Coromandel Express.

On Saturday evening, the Prime Minister visited the crash site to take stock of the situation and assured that stringent action would be taken against those found responsible.

“It’s a painful incident. Government will leave no stone unturned for the treatment of those injured. It’s a serious incident, instructions issued for probe from every angle. Those found guilty will be punished stringently. Railway is working towards track restoration. I met the injured victims," he said.

He also lauded all the people who are providing assistance in the relief operation.

In a tweet, PM Modi said, "Took stock of the situation at the site of the tragedy in Odisha. Words can't capture my deep sorrow. We stand committed to providing all possible assistance to those affected. I laud all those working round the clock, on the ground and helping out in relief work."

He said that Railways is working to provide rescue and relief, as well as to ensure quick restoration of rail tracks.
