Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday addressed a gathering of the Indian diaspora living in Australia at Qudos Bank Arena in Sydney. PM Modi said the relationship between India and Australia was described by various acronyms namely 3 Cs- commonwealth, cricket, and curry, 3 Ds- diaspora, democracy, and dosti, and 3 Es- economy, energy, and education.
PM Modi said that in different periods of time, all the acronyms were right according to their context, but the expanse of India-Australia is far greater and is based on mutual respect and mutual trust. He added that this mutual respect and mutual trust is not just because of the diplomatic relations between India and Australia, but also the Indian diaspora in the country.
PM Modi said that he accepts that the geographical distance between India and Australia is quite significant, but it is the Indian Ocean that connects us. He also acknowledged the differences in lifestyles between India and Australia but added that it is ‘Yoga’ which connects the two cultures.
Prime Minister said that with respect to cricket, both countries are connected forever and now tennis and films are also emerging as a bridge between both nations. Amid the huge cheer from the crowd, PM Modi further said that our cooking practices are different, but it is ‘Masterchef’ which connects us.
He also acknowledged the differences in festivals of both countries, but said India and Australia are connected with the prosperity of ‘Diwali,’ and the celebration of 'Baisakhi'.
Despite different languages, India and Australia are connected with so many schools teaching Indian languages like Malayalam, Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu, Hindi, etc.
PM Modi appreciated the citizens of Australia for respecting the diversity of Indian culture and accepting it with an open heart.
