Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with Shaikha AJ Al-Sabah and several yoga-oriented social media influencers on Sunday during a two day trip to Kuwait.
“Met HH Shaikha AJ Al-Sabah in Kuwait. She has distinguished herself for her passion towards Yoga and fitness. She has established her own Yoga and wellness studio, which is quite popular in Kuwait. We talked about ways to make Yoga more popular among the youth,” he wrote on X.
The avid yoga practitioner is the founder of Daratma — the first licensed yoga studio in Kuwait. Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal also shared photos and updates from the interaction. He noted that the duo had “exchanged views on promoting healthy lifestyle through meditation and yoga” as well as ways to deepen the ‘people-to-people connect’ between the two countries.
Kuwait also conferred its highest honour — The Order of Mubarak Al-Kabeer' — on PM Modi on Sunday for his role in strengthening ties between the two nations. He is the first Indian PM to visit the Gulf nation in the past 43 years.
Modi held extensive talks with the country's top leadership during his two day visit — including Emir Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah. The two leaders discussed boosting ties in information technology, pharmaceuticals, fintech, infrastructure and security. He also held wide-ranging talks with Kuwaiti Prime Minister Ahmad Abdullah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah and Crown Prince Sabah Al-Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Mubarak Al-Sabah with a focus on giving new momentum to the overall bilateral ties.
The Gulf nation is among India's top trading partners, with bilateral trade valued at $10.47 billion in the financial year 2023-24. Kuwait is is a major crude supplier for India — meeting 3% of its energy needs. Indian exports to Kuwait reached $2 billion for the first time, while investments by the Kuwait Investment Authority in India exceeded $10 billion.
