PM Modi holds high-level meeting on Odisha train accident, may visit state today

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi convened a high-level meeting on Saturday to review the situation in relation to the Odisha train accident that left 238 people dead, and over 900 injured. He is also likely to visit the accident site and speak to the injured at Cuttack hospital.
The tragic train accident in Balasore district, Odisha involved the Bengaluru-Howrah Superfast Express, the Shalimar-Chennai Central Coromandel Express, and a goods train.
A railway spokesperson said that the rescue operation is almost complete, and now Railways has started restoration work.
“Only one bogie is left, which is severely damaged. National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), Orissa Disaster Rapid Action Force (ODRAF) and Fire Service are still working to cut the bogie and try to recover the living or the dead," state chief secretary Pradeep Jena said on Saturday.
