PM Modi picks up garbage from Tamil Nadu beach, shares video on Twitter

    Ahead of his second round of informal summit with Chinese President Xi Jinping, Prime Minister Narendra Modi was seen plogging at a beach in Tamil Nadu. On Twitter, PM Modi shared a short video of him picking up plastic bottles, plates and other garbage from a beach outside the Taj Fisherman's Cove Resort and Spa in Mamallapuram.

    Clad in a black kurta-pajama, Narendra Modi was seen with a large plastic bag in hand during his early morning walk. During his 30-minute walk, he collected plastic litter, water bottles from the beach. Along with the video, Narendra Modi wrote "Plogging at a beach in Mamallapuram this morning. It lasted for over 30 minutes. Also handed over my ‘collection’ to Jeyaraj, who is a part of the hotel staff," on Twitter.


    Prime Minister Narendra Modi is in Mamallapuram, Tamil Nadu for a two-day summit with Chinese President Xi Jinping. This is the second informal summit between Xi Jinping and Narendra Modi.

    Cleanliness has always been a top priority for the Narendra Modi government. Swachh Bharat Mission was launched by the Modi government on Gandhi's birth anniversary on October 2, 2014. The components of this initiative include the construction of household toilets, community and public toilets and solid waste management. PM Modi also wrote on Twitter: "Let us ensure our public places are clean and tidy!"

    Earlier today, the Prime Minister also released several pictures of him on a morning walk at the beach. "Refreshing walk and exercises in Mamallapuram, along the scenic coast," Modi tweeted.

    Earlier, PM Modi received the 2019 Global Goalkeeper Award for Swachh Bharat Mission from Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.

    Narendra Modi dedicated this award to the 130 crore Indians who transformed the Swachh Bharat campaign into a "people's movement".
