Business News/ News / India/  Govt to launch study tour program for school students to PM Modi's school in Vadnagar, Gujarat
Back

The central government is planning to start a seven-day tour for students across the country to the primary school that PM Narendra Modi attended as a child.

As per the plan, two students will be selected from each district of the country for the tour to PM Modi's school in Vadnagar, Gujarat.

"Over the next year, two children from each of 750 districts will be visiting the primary school situated at PM Modi's birthplace in Gujarat's Vadnagar, as a part of a seven-day study tour," top government sources told ANI.

Applauding PM Modi's role in taking India's name to new heights at the global level, the government officials said, "Many have drawn inspiration from his rise to the top from a humble background. And this is the reason why this program at the school is being termed as Prerna (which translates to inspiration) because it was at this school that Narendra Modi got his first formal education."

Interestingly, PM Modi's childhood school was preserved by the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) in 2018.

"Children will be shown and told about the story of the Param Vir Chakra awardee brave soldiers of our motherland. Holograms will be used for children to know about the life and times of greats like Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel and Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose. Speeches of the former Prime Ministers including Jawaharlal Nehru, Atal Bihari, Vajpayee, and Indira Gandhi will be played out," the source added.

The selection process of the student tour

The government hasn't finalised the process of the selection of students to be brought to the Vadnagar school. The trip is likely to start in October this year.

In a single trip to the school, a total of thirty students will be taken to the school in Vadnagar.

"In one trip a maximum of 30 students can be brought to the school. The expenses for the students including the travel and stay will be funded by the Government of India through the Ministry of Culture, the sources told ANI.

Student-tour program an opportunity for cultural exchange

Other than a tour to PM Modi's school the seven-day program will be an opportunity for students across the nation to experience the diverse culture of India. Students participating in the program, during their stay, will be asked to prepare one recipe from their region for all other batch mates and have an exchange of foods, reported ANI citing sources.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi's hometown Vadnagar, where he stayed in the early days of his life is in for a major facelift.

Plan to transform Vadnagar, PM Modi's childhood residence

A master plan is under progress for the overall upliftment of the town in Gujarat. More than 2,500 years ago, the town used to serve as an important trading hub but carries with it rich, cultural and religious significance, reported ANI.

Archeologists found several historical items from the town during excavation. Due to this, the town will get its first heritage site museum by the end of 2023.

"During the excavation more than 55,000 including seals, jewellery, bangles, pottery, etc have been found, which are a division of these cultural periods. Modern technology including audiovisual programs will be used to depict this heritage. Each gallery will provide the experience to understand what happened during the seven cultural periods," sources who are privy to the development of the museum told ANI.
