Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday engaged in a conversation with Saudi Arabia's Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, expressing his gratitude for the "excellent support" extended by Saudi Arabia during the evacuation of Indian nationals from Sudan in April, while also conveying best wishes for the upcoming Haj pilgrimage.

The Prime Minister's Office (PMO) stated that the leaders discussed a range of bilateral cooperation matters and exchanged views on various multilateral and global issues of mutual interest, in a telephone conversation.

PM Modi specifically thanked Saudi Arabian Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman for the exceptional assistance provided in evacuating Indian citizens from Sudan through Jeddah in April 2023. Additionally, Prime Minister Modi conveyed his best wishes for the forthcoming Haj pilgrimage.

Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman expressed his full support for India's initiatives during its ongoing G20 Presidency and expressed anticipation for his visit to India, as mentioned in the statement. Both leaders agreed to maintain regular communication.

In April, India established a transit facility in Jeddah to facilitate the safe evacuation of Indian nationals from the strife-torn region of Sudan. Under the mission named 'Operation Kaveri', India transported the evacuees from Sudan to Jeddah, from where they returned to their homeland.

India has initiated numerous such rescue missions to repatriate stranded citizens from various countries. One such operation, "Operation Ganga," was launched by the Modi government last year to evacuate a large number of Indian students from Ukraine in response to the Russian invasion.

Additionally, during the Taliban's attack on Afghanistan, India carried out "Operation Devi Shakti" to ensure the safe evacuation of its citizens from the conflict-stricken nation.

Likewise, at the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic when countries were implementing widespread shutdowns, India executed "Operation Vande Bharat" to bring back millions of its citizens from different parts of the world.
