Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Friday questioned Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the central government's inaction against Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) president Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh who has been accused of sexual harassment charges by the country's top wrestlers.
Sharing a report detailing the charges mentioned in the FIRs against the WFI chief, Priyanka Gandhi asked PM Modi to read the serious allegations and tell the country why there has been no action against the accused.
narendramodiji, read these serious allegations and tell the country why no action has been taken against the accused so far, the Congress leader wrote in a tweet along with a report published by The Indian Express.
AT least two instances of demanding sexual favours in lieu of professional assistance; at least 15 incidents of sexual harassment that include 10 episodes of inappropriate touching, molestation that includes running hands over breasts, touching the navel; several instances of intimidation including stalking — and a shared sense of fear and trauma. These form the key allegations in two FIRs filed with the Delhi Police on April 28 against Wrestling Federation of India chief and BJP MP Brij Bhushan Singh, the Indian Express report stated.
Citing the same report, Shiv Sena (Uddhav balasaheb Thackeray) MP Priyanka Chaturvedi alleged that PM Modi continues to protect this man (WFI chief Brij Bhushan Singh).
Nation’s Prime Minister continues to protect this man. Nation’s Woman and Child Welfare Minister stays silent for this man. Nation’s Sports Minister turns a blind eye for this man. Delhi Police continues to delay taking action against this man. Why is this man being protected by the government & BJP? Any answers? Priyanka Chaturvedi tweeted along with the Express report.
The Delhi Police filed two FIRs at the Connaught Place police station. Brij Bhushan Singh has been charged under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), including assault, sexual harassment, stalking, and common intention.
Additionally, he has also been booked under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. The police FIR also names WFI secretary Vinod Tomar.
The father of a 17-year-old girl, who has been actively participating in wrestling championships since 2016, lodged a police complaint on her behalf, The Hindu reported.
Singh had forcefully pulled the girl towards him and held her so tightly that she couldn’t move or free herself from his grip. Singh further deliberately slid his hand down her shoulder and brushed his hand against her breasts,” her father said, in the FIR.
