Rahul Gandhi backs BJP govt's stand on THIS issue: ‘Can't deny relationship with…’
We have a certain relationship with the Russians that cannot be denied. So I think our policy would be broadly similar with BJP, Rahul Gandhi said

Congress's stand would not have been dramatically different from BJP, senior party leader Rahul Gandhi said on the relationship with Russia.
Responding to a question regarding India's relationship with Russia since the Ukraine war, the senior Congress leader said, “Our stand would be similar to BJP. We have a certain relationship with the Russians that cannot be denied. So I think our policy would be broadly similar."
However, the relationship with Russia ‘might have changed in someways since the war, he further noted. “But, there is a historical relationship with Russia. Also we buy bioweapons from them, there's also those kinds of reasons."
“Dont think, Congress's stand would be dramatically different than BJP in terms of Russia."
Rahul said this while putting forth his point of view on a range of issues during a conversation at the National Press Club in Washington DC.
Lok Sabha elections 2024: Opposition unity against BJP
Regarding the ‘opposition unity’ against the BJP, he said it is "pretty well united"
"The opposition is pretty well united, and it's getting more & more united. We are having conversations with all the Opposition (parties). I think quite a lot of good work is happening there. It's a complicated discussion because there are spaces where we are competing with the Opposition. So a bit of give and take is required. But I am confident that it (a grand Opposition alliance against the BJP at the Centre) will happen," Rahul said.
He further added, "I think the Congress party will do very well in the next two years. I think it will."
"I think there is a hidden undercurrent building…I think (the outcome) will surprise people," he added.
Pointing out the outcome of the Karnataka assembly elections where Congress secured a comfortable majority and ousted the BJP from power, Gandhi said, "Wait and watch the next three or four state elections…. which is a better indicator of what's going to happen."
Rahul Gandhi on disqualification as MP
Opening up on his disqualification as a member of the Lok Sabha, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Thursday said he was "the first to be given the highest punishment for a defamation case".
"...I asked a rhetorical question... I am the first person in India to be given the highest punishment for a defamation case, in history, since 1947. Nobody has been given a maximum sentence that too on the first offence. That should explain what's going on to you and my disqualification happens quite interestingly after my speech about Adani in Parliament, so you can do the math," Rahul said.
