Congress leader Rahul Gandhi witnesses a notable surge in approval ratings subsequent to Bharat Jodo Yatra, while Prime Minister Narendra Modi continues to be highly regarded as the most esteemed leader, according to a public survey conducted by NDTV in collaboration with Lokniti-Centre for the Study of Developing Societies (CSDS).

The survey, which encompassed 7,202 respondents from 71 constituencies, provided valuable insights into the changing perceptions of political leaders in India. The ratings surged by 15 per cent of Developing Societies (CSDS).

Key findings from the survey are as follows:

1. Out of the respondents surveyed across 19 states between May 10 and 19, approximately 43 per cent expressed support for the Bharatiya Janata Party-led National Democratic Alliance to secure a third consecutive term, while 38 per cent disagreed.

2. When asked about their preferred choice for the prime minister if elections were held today, 43 per cent of the respondents named Narendra Modi, making him the frontrunner. Rahul Gandhi emerged as his closest competitor with 27 per cent of the votes.

3. Despite the BJP's loss in the Karnataka assembly election, Narendra Modi's popularity remains strong, as reflected in the party's increased vote share. The BJP's vote share has risen from 37 per cent in 2019 to 39 per cent in 2023. Similarly, the Congress has also experienced a growth in vote share, climbing from 19 per cent in 2019 to 29 per cent in 2023.

Akhilesh Yadav received 3 per cent of the votes, Nitish Kumar received 1 per cent, and 18 per cent of the respondents preferred other candidates.

5. Additionally, the survey unveiled the reasons behind Narendra Modi's popularity. A significant 25 per cent of the respondents admired Modi's oratory skills. Furthermore, 20 per cent appreciated his focus on development as Prime Minister, while 13 per cent commended his hardworking nature. An equal percentage of participants were drawn to his charismatic personality. Approximately 11 per cent of the surveyed individuals expressed their approval of Modi's policies.

6. In relation to Rahul Gandhi, 26 per cent of the respondents stated that they had always held a favourable opinion of him, while 15 per cent indicated that their perception of him had positively changed after the Bharat Jodo Yatra.
