Randeep Hooda, in his directorial debut Swatantrya Veer Savarkar, unveiled the teaser on May 29, which happened to align with the birth anniversary of Vinayak Damodar Savarkar, a figure of controversy due to his revolutionary activities.
However, Hooda's promotional tweet and the content of the teaser have attracted criticism from online users for a specific claim.
In the tweet, Hooda stated that Savarkar was the source of inspiration for revolutionaries like Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose, Bhagat Singh, and Khudiram Bose.
A user named Advait criticized Hooda by pointing out historical facts. Advait mentioned that Khudiram Bose, who was 18 years old, was martyred in 1908, while Savarkar was in London from 1906 to 1911.
The teaser 'Swatantrya Veer Savarkar' was released on the 140th birth anniversary of revolutionary leader Vinayak Damodar Savarkar. Randeep, who plays the title role and is based on the life of politician, activist, and writer Veer Savarkar, discussed the inspiration for the film.
Another user, Anwesh Satpathy, criticized the statement, stating that it lacked factual evidence and made no sense. “Subhash Bose? Khudiram Bose? Khudiram died very very young, long before A year before Dhingra's assassination of Wyllie&Savarkars publication of 1857. How was he inspired by Savarkar? Subhash was a critic. Zero sense not backed by facts."
Randeep made his debut with 'Monsoon Wedding', got a lot of popularity with films such as 'Once Upon a Time in Mumbaai', 'Saheb, Biwi Aur Gangster', 'Rang Rasiya', 'Jism 2' and many more. With 'Swatantrya Veer Savarkar', he is making a debut as a director.
Another user expressed their indifference towards the opinion on Savarkar, emphasizing that they firmly believe he is not an inspiration for Bhagat Singh, Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose, and Khudiram Bose.
Swatantrya Veer Savarkar, directed and co-written by Randeep Hooda alongside Utkarsh Naithani, is a collaborative production between Anand Pandit Motion Pictures, Randeep Hooda Films, Legend Studios, and Avak Films.
