BackSabarmati Ashram: Preparations on to welcome President Trump

PremiumAHMEDABAD : Gujarat is the birthplace of Mahatma Gandhi, the father of the nation. As the state gets ready to welcome the President of the United States of America, Donald Trump–Sabarmati Ashram, a place closely associated to Gandhi is also in preparation mode.
On Sunday, the Ministry of External Affairs confirmed that Trump will be visiting the ashram. The Ashram is located at the banks of Sabarmati river has finished preparations. A giant poster with President Trump, first lady Melania Trump and Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been put across the banks of the river. On the banks, flower arrangements with a Namaste Trump poster have also been arranged. A special room has also been constructed for the visitors.
Inside the ashram, security has started to screen the area. This is the location where Gandhi’s iconic charkha lies. Over the years several key dignitaries including Queen Elizabeth, spiritual leader Dalai Lama, Japan Prime Minister Shinzo Abe.
The ashram was home to Gandhi and his wife Kasturba Gandhi for over a decade until 1930. According to the Press Trust of India, Trump will be gifted a spinning wheel, two books on the life and times of Mahatma Gandhi and a portrait of the Father of the Nation during his visit to the Sabarmati Ashram.
Ahead of the trip, there was a lot of uncertainty over a visit. The location of the ashram is such that visitors can also get a view of the Sabarmati riverfront, which is a pet project of PM Modi.
This will be the first time that a US President visits the ashram.
