Former Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) Mumbai zonal director Sameer Wankhede who is under investigation for demanding 25 crore as a bribe for not framing Bollywood actor Shah Rukh Khan's son Aryan Khan in the drugs-on-cruise case was questioned by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for 5 hours on Saturday.

The sources from the NCB said that Wankhede violated conduct rules by producing the chats between him and Shahrukh Khan in court in which the Bollywood actor was requesting him to go easy on his son.

"Sameer Wankhade giving chats in the court is against the conduct rules of NCB. How an investigating officer can have such chats with the family of the accused?" sources in the NCB said.

"Sameer Wankhade did not inform his superiors about these chats then or placed them on record. Neither he told the vigilance team who were investigating his misconduct about these chats," sources added.

The sources also said that Sameer Wankhede did not provide the phone through which he was chatting with Shahrukh Khan and he even threatened senior NCB officials when he took over the case.

On Friday, Sameer Wankhede approached the Bombay High Court against the CBI action. The high court will hear the matter on 22 May and he also has a protection from arrest till then. "Vande Mataram. I have full faith in the judiciary and I will cooperate with the investigation," Sameer Wankhede after the hearing.

The lawyer representing Sameer Wankhede claimed that Aryan Khan and his father Shah Rukh Khan had already informed the court that there was no instance of extortion involving a sum of 25 crore. The lawyer clarified that Wankhede was not requesting interim bail, but rather seeking protection from being arrested until the following week.

On Wednesday, the Delhi High Court provided Sameer Wankhede with protection from arrest until 22 May, without any coercive action, and granted him the option to approach the Bombay High Court for additional legal remedies.
