Samir Bodas, Icertis co-founder, passed away on Thursday after battling cancer, the company said in a statement.
Icertis called Samir a “visionary entrepreneur” and a powerful leader whose belief, from the company’s earliest days, was that contracts could serve as a foundation for clarity, trust, and value for organisations worldwide. The company further said that his conviction helped build a category-defining business and deeply influenced the many people who learned from him, worked with him, and were inspired by his example, fostering a culture grounded in strong core values.
Anand Subbaraman, CEO of Icertis, said that while the company mourns his passing, it will move forward guided by the values he established and a deep commitment to preserving his legacy. He described Samir as a true pioneer whose vision and leadership helped shape the company into what it is today and noted that Samir had unwavering confidence in Icertis, its mission, its people, and its future.
In an official statement, Monish Darda, co-founder and CTO of Icertis, mentioned that Samir had an exceptional gift for motivating those around him, combining vibrant spirit with strong and confident leadership, adding, "He challenged all of us to think bigger, act with integrity, and to create a consequential and enduring company. The company we are today is a testament to his vision, and his lasting influence will never be forgotten.”
Samir was born in Pune and moved to the United States in 1982 to pursue his undergraduate studies at the University of Texas at Austin. He began his professional career as a software developer at National Instruments.
After earning his degree from the Wharton School of Business, Samir joined Microsoft in 1992, where he held several sales and marketing positions.
He followed his entrepreneurial interests by working with iMandi, Jamcracker, Disha Technology, and Aztecsoft in the early 2000s. In 2009, he fortuitously met Monish Darda, and together they founded Icertis at the dawn of the cloud computing era.
Samir later helped build the company into the clear leader in contract intelligence, highlighting the importance of contracts within enterprises and establishing contract intelligence as a vital system of record trusted by more than one-third of Fortune 100 companies, the company mentioned.
