NEW DELHI : The Supreme Court on Friday issued notice to the central government, Gujarat government, National High-Speed Rail Corporation Limited among others on a batch of pleas filed by farmers against the Gujarat High Court judgement that had dismissed their petitions challenging the process of land acquisition for the ambitious Ahmedabad-Mumbai bullet train project.
“Notice to be served on the standing counsel for the state of Gujarat. Reply may be filed within four weeks. Rejoinder, if any, may be filed within two weeks thereafter," the apex court order said.
The Gujarat High Court had upheld the validity of the Land Acquisition Act amended by the Gujarat government in 2016 and subsequently approved by the President.
The petition has sought to restrain the state government from proceeding further with the process of land acquisition for the purpose of the ambitious project.
