Security forces have initiated extensive search operations in the Sugnu-Serou region of Manipur, Indian Army informed.

As reported by ANI, the operation comes in the aftermath of an exchange of gunfire that took place between the security forces and insurgents during the last night.

"Inputs indicate casualties to insurgents. This is being verified on the ground. During the preliminary search-two AK series rifles, one 51mm mortar, two carbines, ammunition and warlike stores were recovered from the general area. Operations to sanitise the area is in progress," as per the Indian Army.

Indian Army further noted that in response to the need for enhanced area control, ambush prevention, and prevention of violence and arson, the Indian Army has redeployed an additional seven columns comprising five Assam Rifles and two Border Security Force (BSF) personnel in the Sugnu-Serou area. “These operations are a direct outcome of the comprehensive area domination efforts conducted by the Security Forces in Sugnu-Serou over the past 48 hours."

Earlier in the day, ANI reported citing army officials that a jawan of the Border Security Force (BSF) sustained fatal injuries while two Assam Rifles personnel sustained gunshot wounds in Manipur's Serou in firing between security forces and a group of insurgents on the intervening night of June 5-6.

"One BSF Jawan sustained fatal injuries while two Assam Rifles personnel sustained gunshot wounds (GSW) in general area Serou," the Spear Corps of the Indian Army said in a statement.

In response to the recent crisis in Manipur, the Indian Army, Assam Rifles, CAPF, and police have commenced large-scale area domination operations in the region. The ongoing search operation is currently underway.

Army officials have stated that the Indian Army, Assam Rifles, police, and CAPFs have initiated Area Domination Operations in the hills and valley areas of Manipur.

In response to the directives issued during the visit of Union Home Minister Amit Shah to Manipur, security forces have reiterated their appeal for individuals possessing stolen weapons to surrender them promptly. The aim is to maintain peace and stability in Manipur. Security forces have also cautioned that failure to surrender these weapons will result in severe legal consequences for those individuals.
