‘Baat maaniye, shaadi kariye’: Lalu Prasad bats for Rahul's wedding during Opposition meet, cites 'worried' Sonia Gandhi

Lalu Prasad Yadav seemed quite in his element as he quipped 'PM Modi distributing sandalwood in US when country facing problems. I am interacting with you after so many days. I am fit now and I'll make them (BJP) fit'

Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) veteran leader Lalu Prasad Yadav took the paternal chair to reprimand Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on his refusal to get married. The seasoned politician pointed out the consternation the former MP from Wayanad's decision was causing to his mother Sonia Gandhi.

The septuagenarian, who recently underwent a kidney transplant, was the last from the galaxy of Opposition leaders who addressed the media after the much anticipated ‘Mission 2024’ Opposition meet in Bihar's capital city Patna.

Lalu Prasad Yadav seemed quite in his element as he quipped "PM Modi distributing sandalwood in US when country facing problems. I am interacting with you after so many days. I am fit now and I'll make them (BJP) fit".

A ‘fit’ Lalu Prasad Yadav regaled the delegates and the media persons alike with his characteristic sense of humour.

"You do not heed our advice to get married", said Prasad while complimenting 53 years old Gandhi for wearing a half sleeved shirt, which the RJD supremo said was a perfect foil for the "Modi kurta".

"Baat maaniye, shaadi kariye", said Prasad, adding "your mummy keeps fretting over your refusal to get married".

"We would like to be a part of your wedding procession (baraat) said Prasad, evoking a shy smile from Gandhi and guffaws from others present on the occasion.

The seasoned politician was, however, not all mirth and levity as he also lauded Gandhi for the "Bharat Jodo Yatra" and slammed the Narendra Modi government at the Centre for withdrawing 2,000 notes, less than a decade after these were introduced following demonetization.

Congress national president Mallikarjun Kharge on Friday said that the next meeting of like-minded parties will be held in Himachal Pradesh's Shimla next month.

Kharge further said that the opposition parties will meet in Shimla to chalk out a roadmap for the formation of an anti-BJP front for the 2024 Lok Sabha polls.

This comes despite differences between AAP and the Congress during the meeting, where the former made it clear that it would be "very difficult" for it to be part of an alliance until the Grand Old Party denounced the Centre's ordinance in Delhi.

The opposition meeting was called by Bihar Chief Minister and Janata Dal (United) leader Nitish Kumar which was attended by leaders of parties opposed to the BJP.
