An initiative launched by SpiceJet for Delhi assembly elections was subjected to massive trolling on TWitter by stand-up comedian Kunal Kamra.
The budget carrier has started an initiative to enable voters to fly home so that they can cast their vote for the upcoming Delhi elections.
SpiceJet on Monday said it is offering "hundreds" of "free" tickets, where the base fare will be waived but taxes and other surcharges have to be paid, to select people who want to fly to Delhi to vote in the upcoming assembly elections on February 8.
The budget carrier clarified that the participants, who will be selected by the airline's internal panel after their online registration, will have to bear all applicable taxes, surcharges, levies and any other additional costs incurred on the air tickets.
flyers will be offered a one-way ticket, with the base fare waived off, if they plan to fly on February 7 and return on February 8 or fly on February 8 and return on February 9.
The online registration for this initiative will close on 5 February.
Kunal Kamra responded to a tweet from SpiceJet advertisting the same with three emojis that suggest uncontrollable laughter.
It may be recalled that Kamra was recently banned from taking four airlines, namely IndiGo, Air India, GoAir and SpiceJet. Kamra was banned after his in-flight encounter with news anchor Arnab Goswami during an IndiGo flight a few days ago.
Kamra's latest reaction to the SpiceJet post might be construed as him unable to believe that an airline that banned him from expressing his thoughts in public is also promoting democracy by encouraging voting.
Kamra recently tweeted from Mumbai airport saying 'love Vistara' because the carrier allowed him to fly to an unknown destination.
In solidarity with Kamra, filmmaker Anurag Kashyap said on Monday he has decided to not fly IndiGo anymore.
The director said he chose another carrier, Vistara, instead.
"No @IndiGo6E.. on @airvistara.. in solidarity with @kunalkamra88," Kashyap tweeted on Monday.
