India's top sprinter Dutee Chand on Wednesday tested positive for using prohibitive substance. On examining her urine samples, the officials found SARS S4 Andarine, O Dephenylandarine, SARMS (ENBOSARM) (OSTARINE) and LIGANDROL Metabolite. The sprinter was later handed a provisional suspension.

The Selective Androgen Receptor Modulators (SARMs) are part of therapeutic compounds that have similar anabolic properties to anabolic steroids, but with reduced androgenic (producing male characteristics) properties.

The sample was collected out-of-competition on December 5 last year at Bhubaneswar.

In a letter addressed to Dutee, the AAF notification said, "I do hereby inform you that your sample A was tested at the NDTL (National Dope Testing Laboratory) in accordance with the procedure set out in WADA's (World Anti-Doping Agency) International Standard of Laboratories and was returned adverse analytical findings."

According to the WADA website's list of prohibited substances, these banned compounds have the potential to be misused for performance improvement in sports due to their anabolic qualities, as well as their ability to trigger androgen receptors in muscle and bone, resulting in bone and muscular growth.

Dutee, when contacted, said she was unaware of the 'A' sample testing positive. "I do not know," she said.

In 2022, Dutee Chand participated in the National Games held in Gujarat from September to October. She participated in the 200 M event but failed to qualify for the final. In the 100 M event, she finished sixth in the final.

She is an Asian Games medalist, having notched silver in 100 m and 200 m women's competitions in the 2018 edition of the event.

Dutee also won Bronze in 2013, 2017 and 2019 in the Asian Championships.

Back in 2019, she became the first Indian woman sprinter to win gold at a Universiade, winning it in 100 m event in 2019.
