Suniel Shetty criticizes calls for censorship system in OTT space
Actor Suniel Shetty opposes the idea of introducing a censorship system on OTT platforms, stating that restrictions should be based on age and content. He believes producers and creators should be conscious of what they produce.

Over the past few months, debate on calls to bring in a censorship system into the OTT space has gained momentum with several celebrities opposing it. Actor Suniel Shetty is not in favor of the idea to introduce a censorship system on OTT platforms.
“It is a touch to ascertain what to censor and what to leave," Suniel Shetty said as quoted by Hindustan Times.
He believes that there is a very thin line in everything in today's world. The actor, who is exploring the OTT platforms in his shows Dharavi Bank and Hunter - Tootega Nahi, Todega, said that it's not fair if someone is taking advantage of no censorship system in the web space to sell junk.
According to Suniel Shetty, the restrictions in the OTT space should be there when it comes to the age and content of the shows.
“In case, if a show is causing harm to any religion, group of individuals, or anything, then it's not fair. One needs to be morally responsible in such cases. I don't think that only evil sells or good doesn't sell," he said as quoted by HT.
He further said that every decade has its own bunch of problems and also, censorship is a very difficult process. Hence, producers, actors, and creators have to be conscious about what they are producing, Suniel Shetty said.
On the other hand, Bollywood actor Salman Khan earlier this year voiced his opinion about OTT content and he supported censorship over the streaming platforms.
“I really think there should be censorship over the medium...All these... vulgarity, nudity, gaali galauch (swearing) should stop. Kids as young as 15 or 16 years old can watch them all. Would you like it if your young daughter watches it? I just think the content on OTT should be checked. Jitna clean hoga content, utna behtar hoga, viewership uski zyada hogi," the actor said.
Some big names like Shahid Kapoor, Priyanka Chopra, Saif Ali Khan, and Manoj Bajpayee have already stepped into the world of digital.
