NEW DELHI : Food delivery app Swiggy, which recently increased the charges of its ‘Swiggy Super’ subscription plan, has admitted that its online menu rates might actually be higher than those being offered by restaurants in some cases. Replying to a comment by a Twitter user from Bengaluru that prices of food items in Zomato or Swiggy menu are sometimes more than the actual price of the same at restaurants, Swiggy said there might be some discrepancies in online and offline pricing due to the restaurant's policies.

"Hi Raju, we understand your concern, and would like to inform you that we're trying to maintain transparency in our services and that extends to the pricing on the platform. However, the prices might be different online and offline as it is the sole discretion of the restaurant without any added input from our end," Swiggy said on Twitter.

"Slowly big discounts are coming down. In fact, prices of food items in Zomato or Swiggy menu are 25 to 50% more than actual price of the same at restaurant. Delivery charges added. Home made food will always prevail," Bengaluru-based Raju JVA had ranted on the social media site. He further claimed that online prices of some food items are higher by more than 50% in some areas of Bengaluru.

The food delivery start-up said that it is working hard to make food ordering experience as seamless as dine-in experience. "To that end, we've also looked at pricing, however, that remains to be the restaurant's right and we do not intervene with the same. You may witness discrepancies in the online and offline pricing which remains to be the sole prerogative of the restaurant," Swiggy said.

Swiggy had earlier this month increased the rates of its ‘Swiggy Super’ monthly subscription plan of 79 to nearly double of 149. Similarly, the three-month plan will now be charged at 349 instead of 179. Despite a growth in revenue, Swiggy's net loss in FY 2018-19 had widened to 2,367 crore from 385 crore in the year-ago period.
