Jammu and Kashmir: Terrorists on Wednesday opened fire on an army jawan in the Tral area of Awantipora in Pulwama, follwoing which the security forces have launched massive cordon and search operation.
The jawan was on leave and had come home.
The jawan was shot in the leg and was immediately rushed to the hospital for treatment. His condition is said to be stable.
The area has been cordoned off by security forces.
"A massive cordon and search Operation has been launched by Indian Army alongwith @JmuKmrPolice in Tral, Pulwama where a soldier on leave was shot at by terrorists. The soldier has been evacuated and his condition is stable. Search operation is in progress," said Chinar Corps, Indian Army, in a post on X.
Meanwhile, after a Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorist was killed in an encounter on Tuesday, security forces continued their search for militants in the Dachigam forest here on Wednesday.
LeT terrorist Junaid Ahmed Bhat was killed in the encounter with security forces on Tuesday. The category "A" terrorist was involved in the October 20 attack near a tunnel construction site in the Gagangir area of Ganderbal in which a local doctor and six non-local labourers were killed.
"OP Dachigam: In the ongoing operation, one terrorist is killed and has been identified as Junaid Ahmed Bhat (LeT, Category A). The said terrorist was involved in civilian killing at Gagangir, Ganderbal, and several other terror attacks," the Kashmir Zone Police said in a post on X.
Dachigam, a national park located in the Zabarwan range of the Himalayas, reaches the districts of Pulwama and Ganderbal on either side and covers an area of about 141 square kilometres.
Meanwhile, the Jammu and Kashmir Police announced in a statement that two female 'terror associates' have been detained in Udhampur district under the Public Safety Act (PSA).
"District Police Udhampur has detained two female terror associates (OGWs) under the Public Safety Act (PSA). They have been identified as Maryama Begum, a resident of Loudhara, Basantgarh, and Arshad Begum, a resident of Rai Chak, Basantgarh. These individuals were assessed to pose a significant threat to the safety and security of the state," reads the statement.
