'Threatening any leader...not tolerated': Devendra Fadnavis on death threats against Sharad Pawar
NCP president Sharad Pawar has reportedly received a 'death threat' on social media, and Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has vowed to take action against those who threaten political leaders on social media.

Nationalist Congress Party president Sharad Pawar has received a “death threat" on social media, following this Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis reacted to the report. BJP's Fadnavis said, "Threatening any leader or overstepping the bounds of civility while expressing themselves on social media will not be tolerated". Fadnavis assured that the police will take action as per the law.
On Friday, Sharad Pawar's daughter Supriya Sule said that she received a WhatsApp message from his father. Sule told the media, "He (Sharad Pawar) has been threatened through a website". "Such actions are low-level politics and this should stop," she said.
Sule and a delegation of other NCP leaders met Mumbai police chief Vivek Phansalkar demanding action.
Sule told the police that 82-year-old Pawar received a message on Facebook that read “he will meet the same fate as (Narendra) Dabholkar soon".
Narendra Dabholkar, who fought against superstitious beliefs, was shot dead by two bike-borne assailants during his morning walk in Pune on August 20, 2013.
Sule submitted printouts of the screenshots of the death threat to the police.
“The police are in the process of registering an FIR in this connection at South Region Cyber police station," NCP representative said.
Senior NCP leader Ajit Pawar said the threat message was sent by one Saurav Pimpalkar whose social medial profile says he is a BJP supporter.
Instead of misusing the freedom of expression, one should fight the ideological battle in a dignified manner, he said.
Ajit Pawar said social media platforms are being deliberately misused to malign political leaders, post fake news and create divisions in society.
Separately, NCP workers held a protest over BJP leader Nilesh Rane's tweet, in which he termed Pawar as a "reincarnation" of Mughal emperor Aurangzeb.
Rane, former MP and elder son of Union minister Narayan Rane said, "Pawar saheb gets worried for the Muslim community when elections are near. Sometimes it seems that Sharad Pawar is the reincarnation of Aurangzeb."
The NCP workers gathered at Azad Maidan to condemn Rane's tweet. However, the police took them to the Yellow Gate police station from the protest site.
