An under-construction bridge in Bhagalpur of Bihar collapsed into Ganga river it was being built on. The Aguwani-Sultanganj bridge in Bhagalpur has reportedly collapsed for the second time. A video, shot by the locals, has emerged on social media. A similar incident of bridge collapse happened last year as well.
DDC Bhagalpur Kumar Anurag has informed that the Bihar bridge collapsed at around 6 pm on Sunday, June 4. No casualties or injuries have been reported so far from the under-construction bridge collapse incident in Bihar's Bhagalpur.
The local administration has reached the spot.
“The incident of under-construction bridge collapse happened at around 6 pm. No casualties reported till now. Local administration on the spot, we have asked for a report from ‘Pul Nirman Nigam’,” DDC Bhagalpur Kumar Anurag was quoted as saying by ANI.
A portion of a bridge that was built across the Burhi Gandak River in Sahebpur Kamal of Bihar's Begusarai district collapsed and fell into the river, but no casualty was reported.
As per the information, the 206-meter-long bridge had developed cracks. The front part of the bridge between pillars no 2 and 3 collapsed.
Bihar CM Nitish Kumar has ordered a probe into the incident of the collapse of an under-construction bridge in Bhagalpur and asked to identify those responsible for the incident.
Sultanganj JDU MLA Lalit Narayan Mandal has demanded a probe into the incident. “We were expecting that the inauguration of the bridge would happen by November-December later this year. But the way it collapsed is unfortunate. A probe must happen into the incident, there's some fault,” he said.
