In mounting scrutiny into the Unnao accident case, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Wednesday registered a case of murder and attempt to murder against Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) legislator Kuldeep Singh Sengar.

A day after the Centre handed over the case to the CBI, the agency registered a case against Sengar and 10 others accused in Unnao rape survivor's accident case. The agency has also booked 20 unknown persons under criminal conspiracy, murder, attempt to murder and criminal intimidation.

The move by the probe agency comes days after a truck with a blackened number plate rammed into a car, in Uttar Pradesh's Raebareli, carrying a girl who had accused BJP MLA Sengar of sexual assault two years ago.

While the accident killed the girl's relatives, the survivor herself is battling critical injuries in hospital.

The accident sparked political outrage witb senior leaders such as Congress party's Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi questioning why security provided to the girl was lax. At the same time, Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal suspected foul play in the matter.
