New Delhi: The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) on Thursday said it will recruit specialists from the private sector on a contractual basis for various key positions in 12 government departments. The move aims to bring in domain experts and professionals to enhance efficiency and efficacy of governance.
According to a statement released by the UPSC, the recruitment will be conducted for positions including directors, deputy secretaries, and joint secretaries in departments such as Agriculture & Farmers Welfare, Civil Aviation, Chemicals & Petrochemicals, Corporate Affairs, Food & Public Distribution, and Heavy Industries.
Additionally, select posts in departments including Higher Education, Housing and Urban Affairs, Legal Affairs, Promotion of Industry & Internal Trade, Pharmaceutical, and School Education & Literacy will also be filled through this lateral recruitment process.
Interested candidates can apply for these positions from 20 May to 19 June, as detailed in the advertisement and instructions that will be available on the UPSC’s website.
“Candidates will be short-listed for interview on the basis of the information provided by them in their online application," it added.
This move follows the Personnel Ministry’s previous invitation in 2018 for lateral entry at the joint secretary level, where 10 positions were filled through direct recruitment from the private sector. In October 2021, the UPSC recommended 31 candidates for appointment as joint secretaries, directors, and deputy secretaries in various central government departments.
The latest lateral entry recruitment process signifies the government’s commitment to bringing in domain experts and professionals to contribute their expertise to the administration. This initiative is expected to inject fresh perspectives, innovative ideas, and specialized knowledge into government departments, fostering better decision-making and governance.
