A viral video from a train journey has sparked widespread online outrage. It shows a woman smashing the window of her air-conditioned coach, claiming her purse was stolen during the trip, and accusing police of inaction.
The brief clip captures her repeatedly hitting and shattering the windowpane of her compartment, even as fellow travellers plead with her to stop.
A toddler, believed to be her child, sits next to her during the incident, watching the chaos unfold.
According to reports, the theft occurred mid-journey. Frustrated by what she called a lack of help from the railway and police, the woman expressed her anger by breaking the train’s window.
One of the users said, “I feel bad for the child who is with her, adding, ”I hope somebody saved the child from her anger outburst because the child doesn't deserve to see this."
Another remarked, “Govt must make her pay for railway loss and also she has to take care of her belongings not Railway is liable for.”
“This is outrageous,” commented a third.
A fourth netizen questioned, “What would you call this in India - lack of civic sense or lack of faith in the system?”
A fifth remarked, “She looks mentally unstable, genuinely."
“Such people should be blacklisted to board ac coaches lifetime. Railway should have strict rules and it's implications to protect railways. We are introducing new trains with top class facilities, we can't afford such people [sic]", “Charge her with Public Property Damage act [sic]”, suggested others.
The Indian Railways has not issued any statement in this regard so far.
In February this year, at the station in Madhubani, Bihar, passengers heading to the Kumbh Mela reportedly broke the glass windows of the AC compartment after being unable to board the train. Videos reportedly showed the panic inside the coach as windows shattered and passengers, including children, reacted in shock. The Railway Protection Force (RPF) had launched an investigation into the incident, as per reports.
According to The Week, in April 2024, a viral video captured a passenger breaking the glass door/window of the AC coach of this train after being denied entry by passengers already inside.
