NEW DELHI : The Delhi High Court on Thursday issued a notice to Sushen Mohan Gupta, an alleged defence agent arrested in a money laundering case related to VVIP chopper scam, on a plea by Enforcement Directorate (ED) challenging his bail.

The single judge bench of Justice Sunil Gaur listed the matter for hearing on 12 September.

The trial court had granted him relief on a personal bond of 5 lakh and two sureties of the like amount. It had put various conditions on the accused, including that he would not tamper with the evidence and won’t leave the country without the court's permission.

The agency on 22 May filed a supplementary charge sheet against Gupta.

ED had arrested Gupta on 26 March in the 3,600 crore VVIP choppers deal case under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).

According to the agency, Gupta's involvement came to light following disclosures made by Rajiv Saxena, who recently turned approver in the case after he was deported from the United Arab Emirates and arrested by the ED here.

Lawyer Gautam Khaitan and alleged British middleman Christian Michel were also arrested by the ED in the case. Hindustan Power Projects Pvt. Ltd chairman Ratul Puri was also summoned by the probe agency after he was named by both Rajiv Saxena and Sushen Mohan Gupta in the chopper scam.

In January, 2014, India scrapped a contract with Finmeccanica's British subsidiary AgustaWestland for supplying 12 AW-101 VVIP choppers to the Indian Air Force over alleged breach of contractual obligations and charges of paying kickbacks worth 423 crore by it for securing the deal.
