
Wednesday morning at Hyderabad's Rajiv Gandhi International Airport, was full of chaos as operational issues caused flight delays. As furious passengers tried to check-in, the airport staff struggled to address their grievances on 3 December.
This comes a day after RGIA received a threat email warning about "certain anti-social elements are planning to carry out an attack using remote-controlled explosive devices on board the flight once it lands in Hyderabad".
As per the safety protocol, the authorities diverted Kuwait-Hyderabad IndiGo flight to Mumbai and conducted elaborate security checks. However, nothing suspicious was found. Following operational issues and low visibility earlier on Tuesday, several flights were delayed, diverted or cancelled.
Passengers were advised to check real-time updates with their respective airlines as disruptions continued till Wednesday. Low visibility prompted diversion of two incoming flights on Tuesday, ANI reported citing airport sources.
Flight XY325 from Riyadh was diverted to Mumbai, while flight 6E 352 from Pune was redirected to Bengaluru. Depending on weather conditions, there is more possibility of more diversions in the wake of cyclone Ditwah. The storm weakened into a deep depression on Tuesday but continues to bring heavy rainfall in southern states and impact day to day life.
Some of the flights whose departures were delayed and rescheduled, included 6E 409 (HYD-VTZ), 6E 785 (HYD-BOM), 6E 944 (HYD-CCU), 6E 2256 (HYD-DEL), and 6E 5003 (HYD-BOM). As travellers sought assistance over the extended delay, a queue of passengers was seen at airline counters that extended through Tuesday night.
Flights that were cancelled included 6E 240 (HYD-DEL), 6E 6467 (HYD-IXM), 6E 6361 (HYD-BLR), and 6E 922 (HYD-BBI). On the arrivals side, flights 6E 206 (GOI-HYD), 6E 6337 (AMD-HYD), 6E 295 (MAA-HYD), 6E 609 (IXM-HYD), and 6E 6360 (BLR-HYD).
As per India Meteorological Department's (IMD) latest weather forecast, light to moderate rain and thundershowers are likely at isolated places over Telangana. A yellow alert for heavy rains is in place for Adilabad, Kamareddy, Komaram Bheem, Mancherial, Sanga Reddy and Medak districts.
